Buildings similar to the more traditional trulli are present in the northern zone of the Murgia promontory in the area of Monopoli and Polignano a Mare. These buildings are close to the sea and were used for other purposes, as can be seen as the architectural details are different to the traditional trullo.
Also in the north of Bari, in North West Murgia, there are numerous trulli. These were mainly used by the shepherds as temporary shelter. Some are very well built, others more simple. Another type of Trullo, called "pajare" is very common in the territory of Lizzano, Torricella, Salve in the whole of  Salento.
